Affirmative Prayer from Celebration of Life, 4/21/19

The following is a transcript of Rev. Brian Akers’ affirmative prayer at Celebration of Life, Sunday, April 21, 2019:

So please join me in this affirmative prayer as we recognize that God is all Life, all that there is, all the goodness in all the Universe, It is all and all, in all, as all!  And so because we know Its allness, because we know Its oneness, we recognize our unity with It – that we are One with that Divine Presence, with every person who’s holding hands in this room and with every person at home who’s with us and with everyone on this Earth, regardless of what they’re celebrating today, we celebrate them and their life.  We affirm the goodness that is absolutely seeking to express as them – every member of humanity!  And so what I know today is that as we have spoken our word, that the Law, which is God which is good, has only one response – and that is to say “yes!”  And so as I have spoken this word I know that it is already done and so I am grateful – grateful for every hand being held, for every name being known, for every face being seen, and for all of that that is beyond us.  I am grateful for that which I do not even know.  I’m grateful for everything, all of it right here and right now.  And so together, in the safety of our spiritual care and our spiritual sacred community, I surrender.  I surrender to know that I have done what is mine to do, I’m doing what is mine to do and that what is left to be done is done by the Divine.  It’s done by the Law, it’s done by that goodness that conspires for us, to know this Love in greater and greater and greater measure as the life that we lead.  It is already ours, it is already done, and together we say, “And so it is!”
