Event: Human Library
Our very own Rev. Brian Akers is participating in a phenomenal community event being held by the Howard County Public Library System entitled “The Human Library”!
Here is a message from the Library’s Events & Seminars Manager, Alli Jessing:
I’d like to invite you to a unique event taking place this Saturday between 1 – 5pm at the Miller Branch Library in Ellicott City — the Human Library.
The Human Library is an international initiative designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. Our local Human Library initiative is a partnership between Choose Civility, HCLS, and #OneHoward.
As in a traditional library, visitors to the Human Library can choose Books from a range of titles. But at the Human Library, Books are people, and the reading is a conversation! Reading a Living Book is a chance to learn about a different culture or community through questions and conversations, and the exchange of empathy that occurs during these events leads to stronger communities and a greater understanding of our neighbors.
Children of all ages are welcome to attend with a parent. If you’re in the neighborhood, please feel welcome to drop by anytime between 1 – 5 pm to check out a Human Library Book (or two!) More details are available here, including a list of the Human Books who will be at the event.
Come out and bring your family to this community event that is sure to inspire, inform and connect us as neighbors and support Oneness living its mission in the community by Opening Hearts, Inspiring Lives and Celebrating Oneness!
